Kaput, written and directed by Matthew Posey

The Ochre House launches our fifteenth season with Matthew Posey’s salty seafaring comedy, KAPUT! Our intrepid skipper is the worldly Captain Chuck, piloting his ever-faithful tugboat, Tappy. Along the way, we add an unlikely crew, in a feisty French revolutionary named Tulip and her younger brother, Poppy, who, as it happens, really wants to be her little sister.

Seeking safe harbor and just treatment from a cruel, fascistic world, our little company spies a mysterious island and steers toward adventure. They’ll soon discover that this is anything but a tranquil, compassionate place.

“Kaput, a funny, offbeat musical written and directed by Ochre House artistic director Matthew Posey, is a 90-minute journey of inventive staging, clever puppetry and fresh music in the intimate 45-seat theater near Fair Park.”

“What starts off as a silly, politically incorrect sendup of ethnic stereotypes, gender fluidity and human foibles turns poignant in its final scenes — tears of laughter transformed into tears of empathy.”
